2011 Engineers Australia (Tasmanian Division) Engineering Excellence Awards

  
 

The award recognises BRA, and the system’s principal design and construction consultant, TCS, for the innovative approach taken to the storage and handling of pyrethrum pellets.
Pellet Line 2 is also a finalist in the National Engineering Excellence Awards, scheduled for November 2011.

In 2008, the combined desire to reduce risk and increase overall capacity of the site led to the development and construction of a new $4 million pellet stockpile facility. The resultant Automated Pellet Handling Facility, known as Pellet Line 2, was commissioned in early 2010 and has delivered numerous benefits, including excellent improvements in Health and Safety.

The main features of the new Pellet Handling Facility include:

  1. Fully automatic operation with remote control from the Extraction Control Room
  2. Permanent in-floor aeration ducts with automatic temperature control.
  3. 2,400 m2 floor space.
  4. First-class machine guarding, safety and technological features
