Pyrethrum the product
Pyrethrum is the botanical insecticide derived from the white pyrethrum daisy, Tanacetum cinerariifolium. It is a naturally occurring insecticide. The active ingredient is concentrated in the flower head and is made up of a combination of six esters known as pyrethrins.
Pyrethrum is effective against a broad range of insect pests, used in domestic settings in the home and garden, and for industrial and agricultural preparations. Pyrethrum has combinations of characteristics that distinguish it from other synthetic insecticides.
-
Fast acting against most insect pests.
-
A repellent as well as an insecticide.
-
Low toxicity to humans and warm blooded animals, with minimal hazards when used according to label instructions.
-
Low persistence in the environment – pyrethrum breaks down quickly, particularly in sunlight, so there is no build-up in the environment.
For application in the most sensitive environments, pyrethrum is a very low-risk, natural insecticide that is fast acting and effective against insect pests.
